The Friends of the Library and Anchorage Library Foundation fund programs that are essential to the Anchorage Public Library mission like new materials, events and classes, Live at the Library, technology, and teen programs.
New Materials
We contribute about $40K a year to the Library to purchase new books, audio and e-books, movies and music. Thanks to your support, the Library is able to offer an extensive collection, even on a limited city budget.
Summer Discovery
Kids who read over the summer are more likely to keep up and advance in class when they return to school in the fall. The Library’s summer reading program is a critical piece of our city’s education system and the Friends of the Library provide ALL of the Library’s summer reading programs for youth, teens and adults.
Live at the Library
The Friends of the Library summer concert series is fun for the whole family. Concerts take place on the lawn at Loussac every Thursday at noon from June to mid-August. Pack a lunch, bring the kids and come on down!
Long-Term Planning, Development and Pilot Projects
We support Library long-term planning efforts, like the Loussac Library Master Plan and the Library Strategic Plan, and development through staff training and Library marketing. We also fund pilot projects like Teen Underground and the Community Resource Coordinator to test new ideas and innovations before seeking permanent public funding.
