Thank you voters for passing the $1.15M Facility Bond for Senior Centers and Loussac Library!
Did you know? Senior Centers and Libraries are on the April ballot.
Proposition 6 is a $2.8M facilities bond for the Anchorage Senior Center, Chugiak-Eagle River Library, and Loussac Library in the upcoming municipal election. This small bond will provide critical safety projects and building upgrades for popular facilities that are the heart of our community. By investing this modest amount now, we can save money on expensive repairs in the future. At only 50 cents per $100,000 of assessed value, the cost to the average homeowner will be less than $3.
Ballots will be mailed on March 11 and are due back by April 1, 2025.
Who uses public facilities?
- Over 100,000 people a year use the Anchorage Senior Activity Center, including students, non-profits, dance groups and the business community.
- Municipal residents use public libraries regularly – Anchorage Public Library sees HALF A MILLION visits per year.
Who owns these facilities? We do!
- These are city owned properties.
- These are heavily used buildings that serve the entire municipality.
What will the bond pay for?
- Chugiak-Eagle River Library: New carpet for the library that has not been updated since it opened in 2009. Outside Loussac, this library is the busiest and most used library branch in the Municipality.
- Anchorage Senior Activity Center: Building renovations which include replacing front doors and hot water heater, software updates for HVAC system, and mechanical upgrades. All these will increase community engagement.
- Loussac Library: Replace windows at Loussac Library to increase energy efficiency and help keep costs down for the Municipality.

New Windows at Loussac Library
Loussac Library opened in 1986, and the windows in the building are original to the space. Those windows have started holding condensation and leaking, sometimes on the book collection. Staff are working hard to keep up, but this bond will help save time and money at your library!
