Thank you voters for passing the $1.15M Facility Bond for Senior Centers and Loussac Library!
Did you know? Library facilities are on the April ballot.
Proposition 5 is a $7.1M facilities bond for the Old City Hall and Loussac Library in the upcoming municipal election. Phase 1 for re-designing the children’s area at Loussac Library. A new boiler for Historic City Hall to attract new investment and tenants alongside the new Downtown Library branch. By investing this amount now, we can save money on expensive repairs in the future, as well as create a safe and engaging space for children and families.
Ballots will be mailed on March 17 and are due back by April 7, 2026.
Who uses public facilities?
- Municipal residents use public libraries regularly – Anchorage Public Library sees HALF A MILLION visits per year.
Who owns these facilities? We do!
- These are city-owned properties.
What will the bond pay for?
- Loussac Library: Phase 1 for re-designing the children’s area at Loussac Library, including plans to improve access, safety, and update the space that is original to the 1986 building.
- Downtown Library: New boiler for Historic City Hall to attract new investment and tenants alongside the new Downtown Library branch.

New Windows at Loussac Library
Loussac Library opened in 1986, and the windows in the building are original to the space. Those windows have started holding condensation and leaking, sometimes on the book collection. Staff are working hard to keep up, but this bond will help save time and money at your library!
